Watch TV or Maybe Listen to Some Husker Du

Good lord I'm a poor blogger, haven't updated since the first of the month, GASP!

So The Ergs! are breaking up, that's a damn shame right there, even if you listen to their music and don't enjoy it you have to admit dorkrockcorkrod is the best album title ever!

So I've been working on this new HP2 song for about two weeks now, which is usually a terrible sign... From what I've come to understand that is usual with most song writers, but I found that with me at least once I work on something for over three days that's when I start to over think and the song goes down the suck drain.  I really like the concept of the song, it's about things that really shouldn't make you happy yet they do (based on a Tara poem), like the comforting skip on your favorite record, you know it's coming and while it should annoy you but you've come to accept it not only as part of the album but it's own unique and wonderful part of the experience.  Every time I hear that skip I smile.  Other examples include run on sentences.

But yeah, it's a pain in the butt to write and I'm about to give up on it, it sounds like a Loved Ones song and we're not from Jersey so I don't think we can pull it off.

(FUN NOTE FOR READERS: as I made the Jersey comment Springsteen came on the iTunes, IRONY MUCH!)

So last night I decided, "you know what, I'm tried of being the only person on the planet earth who hasn't seen the Dark Knight (FUN FACT: until last night I was the last person on earth who hadn't seen the Dark Knight), I'm going Imaxin'!" Now remember my last post where I was exalting my own nerd-ness, this is another case of that: the movie started at 7:45, which put it's ending time at about 10:20, upon walking out of the theater I was in a daze, completely blown away by what I had just seen.  I looked up at the marquee and saw the movie was playing again at 11:00 so I said, "that movie was amazing, I'm going to see it again."  That's right, I watched the Dark Knight twice in a row, both times on the Imax screen (given the second time I did get a better seat making it a much different movie going experience!)

Tonight hasn't been quite as interesting, most of my night has been spent drinking Red Stripe and listening to Ken Boothe/Alton Ellis/Byron Lee records, JAMAICAN SKA FTW!!!!!  But it's been a very relaxing evening, I even posted on the HP2 blog (although I forgot to sign in, I'll let you guess which post is mine [hmmmm.....I wonder which it could be?]). Those Jamaican songs are such beautifully crafted pop-songs, memorable melody's, simple yet universal structure, and easily some of the most danceable music on the planet.

Right now I'm taking a trip down the opposite end of the "ska?" spectrum and listening to the new captain squeegee album, a solid album to be sure.  I sure the term "ska" very very very loosely to describe this one, these guys pretty much did away with the little ska influence they had on their music for this one if favor of a much more progressive rock/punk sound, way hard?

That's all I've got for now I suppose.

So my lady's been gone for the past few days, and will stay gone for about another week and a half, that leaves me with a LOT of free time.  Now it's time to learn a deep dark Country Dave secret, I'm a nerd, not even like a little nerd, but a straight up sci-fi channel watching, star trek loving, beets, bears, battlestar galactica nerd.  Right now the focus of my nerd-dom is my steadily growing vinyl collection, which today I organized:

Photobucket

We're not talking, "I'll just this look a little nicer" style organization, I mean full on alphabetical, by original release date, 12, 10, and 7 inches separated organization.  I gave a lot of thought to alphabetical, by genre, by release date, but how does one define a band like say Colossal? Are they punk? Rock?  How does one distinguish one from the other?  What of bands who've evolved past previous genre description?  Is ...And The Battle Begun really a ska album?

Like I said, nerd, these are the things I think about when left to my own devices.

For those wondering you can check out all the titles on those shelves at http://www.recordnerd.com/countrydave

Sassy!

Interwebz?

So, interwebz, we meet again.....

Well, I suppose not so much meet, you being a cold indifferent set of wires and tubes and such, and me just being a dude in his living room with a keyboard and too much time, but I think people get the picture.

So let's get down to the nitty gritty of why this is here, because I'm bored, I'm bored and the only real way for anyone to know this blog exists is for them to search it out via the Half Past Two blog.  So they'd have to click on my name, say, "Anteaters, what the hell is that about" then see it's good olde Country Dave's blog, frankly I like the ego boost involved with that, every hit this blog gets i come closer and closer to being the next Perez Hilton!

Here's a moose:

Yup, that was a moose alright.

Let's see, what else is going on... Have you guys had a chance to check out the four new songs from my favorite group of punk rock 11 year olds PADDY WAGON! Damn kids, why you gots to bring it so hard, make me feel like an old man who wasted two years of his life.

Hmmm... What else would you guys care about, the song writing portion of the new album is done, 100 percent taken care of, now we just have to learn nearly 20 songs, then lose 6 of them, then cut two off the album, and hopefully by feb. of next year we'll have an amazing 12 songs ready for you guys.  The other thing that will be cool about this album is how we're going to release it, I won't give away any big hints yet, but let's just say Delivery Taco Records (me!) is going to have a big hand in the yet to be titled album's release.

Well I think that's more than enough for now, if you found this then kudos to you, and if you can guess where the title/url of this blog come from I'll buy you a cookie, seriously!

xoxo,
Country Dave
